Three
corporations in the area have announced
plans to add more than 1,000 jobs
within the next three years, the Oklahoma
Department of Commerce announced.
ConocoPhillips expects to add 600
jobs to its facilities in Bartlesville,
including 500 employees in the process
of relocating from Houston, according
to information filed when the company
joined the Oklahoma Quality Jobs Program.
In return, the company could receive
an incentive of up to $22.4 million
from the state over the next decade
if it meets its hiring goal.
GEA Rainey Corp., a maker of air-cooled
heat exchangers at the Tulsa Port
of Catoosa, said it will add 300 jobs
as part of the state program, for
a maximum state benefit of $5.3 million.
When GEA Rainey joined a consortium
of port companies in the formation
of the (888) PORT-JOB (767-8562) hotline
in October, Phil Snodgrass, vice president
of operations, estimated there were
30 immediate openings at the company.
Frankoma Pottery of Sapulpa estimated
it will hire 125 people as part of
the state program, for a maximum benefit
of $1.6 million.
The ceramic manufacturer, which had
closed in December 2004, was reopened
last summer after it was purchased
by Det Merryman, who is using the
plant to make a line of ceramic dogs
for his company, Merrymac Collection.
When Merryman purchased the plant,
he estimated the facility would employ
50 people by the end of 2005 and 150
people by 2006.
Other companies that recently qualified
for the Quality Jobs program include
Durant Biofuels LLC of Durant, which
expects to hire 175 people; and Bar-S
Foods Co. of Altus, which expects
to add 250 jobs.
The program allows companies with
75 percent of total sales to out-of-state
customers to apply for an incentive
in exchange for the creation of jobs.
