The Bartlesville
City Council approved an incentive package
for DeLaCruz Golf, a company currently
headquartered in Vista, California,
and founded by well-known golf club
designer, Dick DeLaCruz. The Council
agreed to the package that includes
some cash payments for moving expenses
and job creation in addition to two
years free rent on a 75,000 square foot
building owned by the Bartlesville Development
Corporation and formerly occupied by
Components Manufacturing Company. The
company also received an option to purchase
the building after three years for a
reduced rate if it has created 500 jobs
by the end of that time period. Currently
DeLaCruz Golf employs 27 workers in
California. Seventeen of those workers
are expected to move to the Bartlesville
area.
"Bartlesville is a golf town, so
we are excited to have one of the biggest
names in golf club design locating his
company here," said Evan Zorn,
BDC President. "The move will be
a cost saving one for the company, and
I believe that they will find that our
workers and business environment are
the best in the nation," he added.
Dick DeLaCruz, a name known throughout
the golf world, started DeLaCruz Golf
in 2001. Prior to this venture, he designed
and manufactured automated machinery
for the golf industry. He was also vice
president for Callaway Golf, which now
employs 3,8000 in Carlsbad. While working
these, his accomplishments included
the designing of the S2-H2 System, the
design upon which all Callaway golf
equipment is based to date. DeLaCruz
is known by many golf enthusiasts for
being the designer of the "Big
Bertha" driver, one of the clubs
in the S2-H2 series, and the Cobra Oversized
Clubs.
Dick has also designed clubs for and
worked with the following companies:
Wilson, MacGregor, True Temper, Palmer,
Spalding, Callaway, Cobra Golf, Founders
Club, Godwin Golf, Kenneth Smith, Orlimar,
Coors, and Bridgestone. In 1995 DeLaCruz
served as CEO and Vice Chairman of Goldwin
Golf-USA, a start-up golf company that
was grossing $64,000,000 in annual sales
by the end of its third year. Goldwin
currently has 400 employees.
As a part of the arrangement with the
City, DeLaCruz Golf has agreed to begin
its move to Bartlesville by March 2005
with completion by July 2005.
