SemGroup To Add 100 Tulsa Jobs

After agreeing to buy the asphalt business of Wichita-based Koch Industries Inc., SemGroup LP said it plans to move the operation’s headquarters and roughly 100 jobs from Wichita to Tulsa. The jobs average $80,000 or more a year with the relocation anticipated to be complete by Sept. 1 st. SemGroup’s Tulsa employment will nearly double to 210. Statewide, the number of SemGroup employees would rise to more than 360, with a payroll exceeding $26 million a year. SemGroup was founded in 2000 with six employees. Today, the partnership has $2.5 billion in assets and employs 1,550 people in North America.

American Airlines Lands Contract

American Airlines’ Tulsa Maintenance & Engineering Center has agreed to overhaul 29 Fokker F100 twin jets for a Brazilian aerospace firm in a deal that could be worth “tens of millions of dollars.” The contract with Synergy Aerospace of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, involves annual light C-checks on seven F100s and comprehensive C-checks performed every five years on 22 aircraft. The work will also involve certain modifications including seat reconfigurations, installation of Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems and component repair and replacement.

BizJet Gets Engine Job

BizJet International Sales & Support Inc., one of the premier turbine engine overhaul companies, has been named a factory-authorized repair facility for Honeywell Aerospace TFE731 engines, the most popular corporate jet engine. The Honeywell-authorized repair designation is expected to “dramatically” increase BizJet’s engine overhaul work and lead to significant increases in employment, which today is at 220 workers, up 19 percent from a year ago.

Tulsa Area High On Low-Cost List

Tulsa ranks third in having the low cost of doing business among the nation’s 150 largest metro areas, according to an annual ranking by Forbes magazine. Overall, the metro area ranked 77 th in a list of “Best Places for Business and Careers.” The ranking for the cost of doing business is based on cost of labor, energy, taxes and office space.
